A memorial service to honor and celebrate Dean’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Blue Mound. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 12:00-1:45 p.m. on Saturday with a Masonic Rites service beginning at 1:45. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery with military honor provided by the Macon County Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Honors Team. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Ansar Shrine or the Penguin Project in Bloomington-Normal.
Dean was born on February 20, 1927 in Blackland, IL, the son of Merville H. and Lelah M. (Bailey) Damery. He married Janet Carolyn Nicholls on July 29, 1950. Dean proudly served in the United States Army from September 1946-September 1949, Merchant Marines from July 1945-March 1946. He retired in 1985 from Caterpillar Tractor Co. after 29 years and 4 months of service. Dean was also a farmer. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Blue Mound, Masonic Lodge #751, Decatur Shrine Club, Springfield Ansar Shrine, VFW in Taylorville, American Legion in Stonington and the DAV. Dean was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and enjoyed watching Illini basketball and football.
Dean is survived by his wife: Janet Damery of Blue Mound, IL; daughter: Mary Lynnette (Kim) Durbin of Little Rock, AR; brother: Burrell (Phyllis) Damery of Moweaqua, IL; grandchildren: Kristy (Darren) Gates, Kim (Ben) Janvrin, Brent Alan (Andrea) Damery, Jr., Dara Damery, Aaron Damery, Carrie Scott and Billy Scott; great grandchildren: Kyle Gates, Hallie Gates, Logan Janvrin, Mason Janvrin, David Damery, Caitlin Damery, Mena Damery, Noah Boyd, Jason Scott, Drew Dunmire and Jenna Dunmire; sister-in-law: Ann Damery; daughter-in-law: Amy Damery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son: Brent A. Damery, great grandson: Brent Alan Damery III, sister: Elnora K. Sefried, brothers: Dellas Damery, Leo Merville Damery and his wife Johanna, Raymond Damery and Carroll James Damery.
