Edward Richard Bergman, age 77, of Stevens Point, WI, passed away Tuesday, January 29th 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Evan.

Ed was born March 8th, 1941, in Reedsburg, WI, to Edward and Elsbeth Bergman. Hewas one of five children and told great stories of his days growing up on the family farm in Loganville, WI, as the “baby” of the family. He returned to Loganville often to deer hunt with his sons and brother, Evan.

After graduating from Webb High School in Reedsburg in 1959, Ed enlisted in the US Army. He served his country from January 1960 until November 1962, spending much of that time in France before being honorably discharged. He was looking forward to an upcoming Honor Flight in May of this year.

Ed married Carolyn Steinke on September 26th, 1964. Ed worked as a carpenter and credit manager until the mid 1970’s when he started his own business as a home builder. He was well known for building quality homes. Ed was committed to local home building as a Charter Member of the Golden Sands Home Builders Association, serving as its president in 1993-94. He received the GSHBA Builder of the Year award in 1994. Ed also held a real estate broker’s license. After building hundreds of homes in the Stevens Point area, Ed retired in 2005 but continued to work part-time designing homes for his son Kurt.

Ed spent his free time in retirement traveling with Carolyn to casinos near and far, and also to several countries including France, where he visited his son Brian. Ed and Carolyn especially enjoyed taking bus trips throughout the United States with their friends.
Above all, Ed loved his family.

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held Monday, February 4th at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Stevens Point; Pastor Steve Hulke will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be in the Plover cemetery.

A Golden Sands Home Builders Scholarship will be established in Ed’s name to support construction education for local students.
