Dr. Horace Whittlesey Dead.
News of the death of Dr. Horace Whittlesey, dentist, on Feb. 25th in Mexico City has been received by Emporia friends. Dr. Whittlesey had lived in Mexico for many years where he practiced his profession. He was a native Kansan and grew up in Emporia. He married Mae [May] Madden of Emporia and is survived by one son, Horace Jr., and two daughters, Mary Anne Whittlesey and Mrs. Charles Hitchins. Dr. Whittlesey visited in Emporia eight years ago.

Dr. Whittlesey Was The Son of First Mayor of Emporia
Dr. Horace G. Whittlesey, who died Feb. 24th in Mexico City, Mex., was the son of Nelson and Julia Evans Whittlesey, among the earliest residence of Emporia. Nelson Whittlesey was the first mayor of the town. Dr. Whittlesey, who was born Feb. 1st, 1877, in Emporia, attended Emporia schools and was graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry.
He established a practice in Mexico City in 1900, returned to Kansas and was married to Miss May Madden, Cottonwood Falls, and resumed his residence in Mexico in 1906. He was a Fellow in the American College of Dentistry and a member of the faculty in the Mexico National University until his retirement.
Mrs. Whittlesey and their children lived in Emporia with Dr. Anna M. Ellsworth for a number of years during a period of revolutionary unrest in Mexico. Dr. Whittlesey, when in Emporia several years ago, recalled one of his patients, Leon Trotsky, had been in his office the day before he was assassinated.

Dr. Horace Whittlesey participated in local bicycle races in his youth. He listed his residence on his WW I Draft Registration as 218 W. 12th Av., Emporia. He had a dental office on the NE corner of 5th Av. & Commercial St. in Emporia.
