The only member of his family who came to America, he ran away from his home in Scotland as a young man, making his way to Florida where he died from yellow fever in 1847. He drove a stagecoach between New Orleans, Louisiana and Pensacola, Florida. It is possible he actually carried the disease to Florida from New Orleans .... he and the other stagecoach drivers. He died in the Yellow Fever epidemic in Florida and his home with his body in it was burned to the ground to prevent the spread of Yellow Fever. His wife and infant child made a harrowing escape on horse back from the burning house and eventually made their way to Texas! From Currie Family History by Kathryn Currie McCoy
