"Daniel I Smail, 89, of Central Towers, 217 E Central Ave, died at 3:25 pm Sunday, Aug 18, 1991, at the Titusville Area Hospital. He was admitted there Aug 14. Mr Smail was born at Leechburg, Dec 10, 1901, a son of the late Peter S and Sarah Rowe Smail. He was married to the former Bessie Moon Strain, Nov 18, 1964, at Tionesta. Mr Smail's working career began at the age of 14 years. He worked in the coal mines in the Leechburg area. He later worked on road construction for many years. He was last employed at the Titusville YWCA as custodian for 13 years. He was retired for the past 15 years. He also enjoyed working his produce farm at his former residence, 870 W Central Ave. He was a member of the Gilson Ridge Free Methodist Church; also attended the Enterprise Community Church and attended religious services at Central Towers. He also cared for the memorial roses at Central Towers. He is survived by his wife; a step-daughter, Mrs Lesley E (Eva) Carner of Titusville; four step-sons, Jack Strain of Cranberry, Gordon Strain, Lee Strain and Albert Strain, all of Erie; eighteen step-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Albert Smail of Leechburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, a step-son, William Strain, died Dec 24, 1985; two brothers, Phil and Paul Smail, and seven sisters, Phoebe, Agnes, Elsie, Myrtle, Martha, Emma and Margaret, died previously. Friends may call at the Gordon B Garrett Funeral Home...and attend the funeral service there at 11 am Wednesday with Rev Jerry Drake, pastor of the Enterprise Community Church, officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery."
