George W. Sammons Dies; Rites Saturday

George W. Sammons, 83, o 223 South Popular Street, retired city maintenance worker, died Wednesday night at Allen Memorial hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kirby Funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Thomas D. Riddle, pastor of the First Southern Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns cemetery.

Mr. Sammons was employed by the city in the maintenance department for 28 years, reiting in 1955. He lived at 203 North Griffith street for 33 years, moving at the time the present Department of Public Safety building was constructed.

Born July 21, 1883, at McCook, Neb., he was married to Elna Electra Robinetee at Bogue, Kansas., on Feb. 28, 1907. She died in 1931. He married Ellen Louisa Phillips at El Dorado July 29, 1951. She died in 1953.

Mr. Sammons had lived in El Dorado since 1926, coming from Stockton, where he had lived all his life before that. He was a member of the United Brethren church.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Maude Cowan, Manitou Springs, Colo., Mrs. Louise Burns, 614-1/2 North Atchison, Mrs. Beulah McGuire, of the home, and Mrs. Dorothy Smith, Augusta; two sons, Donald Sammons, El Dorado Route 1, and Bob Sammons, 119 North Orchard; three brothers, William Sammons and Bob Sammons, both of Stockton, and Frank Sammons, Eaton, Colo. There are 22 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
