Leonard Keith Eichelberger, 89, of Atalissa, passed Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at his home with his family by his side.

Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, February 17, at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, and 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 18, prior to the funeral service. Memorials may be given to the Iowa City Hospice in his memory.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 18, at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Burial will be in the West Bethel Cemetery, rural Cedar County, northwest of Atalissa, with full military rites conducted by the Tipton VFW Post #2537. A time of food and fellowship will follow after the committal at the funeral home.

Leonard Keith Eichelberger was born November 15, 1929, in Mechanicsville, the son of Frank and Freda (Greve) Eichelberger. Because both Frank and Freda died when Leonard was a very young boy, he was raised by his adopted parents, H. V. “Short” and Ethel Conley of Tipton. He graduated from Springdale High School with the Class of 1947. He served in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. He married Darlene Marolf on December 13, 1953, in the Lutheran Church in Tipton. Together they farmed in the Atalissa area and raised their two children, Deann and David.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene, of Atalissa; one daughter, Deann (Randy) Thelen of Jackson, TN; one son, David Eichelberger of Atalissa; and two grandchildren, Christopher (Katie) Juels of Phoenix, AZ, and Madison Montchal of Jackson, TN.

He was preceded in death by his birth parents, his adopted parents, three brothers, Donald, Arthur and Robert Eichelberger and four sisters, Eleanor McAfee, Erma Samuelson, Jean Coleman and Frances Anderson.
