He was born April 18, 1936 in Grant Township, Pennsylvania, a son of the late John C. Sr. and Gertrude Louise (Longwell) Abel. He was a member of the Arcade United Church of Christ, Congregational. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and his family.
He was a dairy worker for Emkay in Arcade and in Blasdell.
John is survived by his wife, Carol J. (Young) Abel, whom he married on November 16, 1957 in Blasdell; his children, David (Eunice) Abel of Cassadaga, New York, Cynthia Abel of Angola, Karen (David) Czesak of Chaffee, Lori Abel of Jamestown, Melissa Landis of Warren, Pennsylvania and Nancy (Phil) Youngman of Tonawanda; his brother, Boyd Abel of Grant Township, Pennsylvania; his sisters-in-law, Donna and Jane Abel, both of Indiana, Pennsylvania; also survived by 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Harry and Enos Abel.
Friends may call Monday, February 18, 2018, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main Street, Arcade. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at 11 AM at the Arcade United Church of Christ, Congregational, 297 Main Street, Arcade. Pastor Sue Hodges will officiate. Interment will be held in Arcade Rural Cemetery.
