The 1880 Edgefield SC US Census shows him with his family at age 2. Clearly he could not be there at that time if he was born in 1881. Subsequent US Census reports also confirm that he was born in 1878.
M. E. Ouzts died March 20, 1940 in Daytona Beach FL. Born in Edgefield SC. Formerly with Ouzts, Mitchell, and Whaley, He had lived in Daytona area about 6 years. Survivors include wife, Annie Claire Willis; son, M. Emmett Ouzts, Jr.: 2 grandchildren; a brother, John Ouzts (AZ) and 2 sisters in SC. He was a member of Mulberry Street Methodist Church. Interment: Rose Hill Cemetery, Pall bearers: W. E. Ryals, R.S. Freeman, C.H. Balewon, Jerome Burney, N. Mitchell, Baldwin Martin, W. J. (or T.) Johnson, S Guyton Abney.
