Les was born December 9, 1921 in Roseland Township, MN to John and Susanna Folkerts. As a young man, he was with the CCC in southern MN. In 1942 Les joined the Army during World War II. He married Dorothy Moje on May 26, 1943. After returning from the service, he worked as a mechanic at Blomkest, MN. In 1953 they moved to St. Paul where he worked for the State of MN and the last 20 years of employment was with Ramsey County as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. Upon retirement in 1983, they moved to the Pequot Lakes area. Les enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, but he especially cherished traveling and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Pequot Lakes American Legion, the VFW in Jenkins, MN and Christ Lutheran Church in Baxter, MN.
Survivors include his children, James (Carole) Folkerts of Ideal Corners, Phyllis Palmer of Yuma, AZ; grandchildren, Jackie (Brad Rasmussen) of Pequot Lakes, Michael (Lynn) Folkerts of Oakdale, Amy (Ben) Hofschule of Oakdale, April Palmer of MA; great grandchildren, Dani, Katie, Jimmy, Tony, Jessica, Samantha, Jake, Kayla, Hannah; great-great grandchild, Maci; brothers, Lee, Lyle; sister, Lucille. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; great grandson, Nick. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church.
