Katie Baird Allen
February 16, 2019
Kathleen Marie Baird (Allen) was born on July 1, 1986 to Roy and Janet (Fecht) Baird (Johnson) in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. She has an older brother, John Bey and wife Rose Bey of Gering, Nebraska and two older sisters, Jennifer (Murray) and husband Scott Martindale of Bloomington, Indiana and Jessica (Murray) and husband Charlie Duncan of Tecumseh, Nebraska. This beautiful, brown-eyed girl was the twinkle in her father's eye and the joy of her mother's heart. Although she grew up in Bayard, Nebraska, life's events moved her and her mother to Washington, Indiana where she graduated in 2004.
After graduation, she moved to Tecumseh, Nebraska to help raise two of her nephews as well as start her career at Blessings From Above Daycare where she was the Director at the time of her passing. Katie graduated from Southeast Community College in 2012 with an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education. She also was attending on-line classes at Grand Canyon University to complete her four year teaching degree after which she planned on becoming a preschool teacher within the school system. Katie met her husband, Johnny Allen, in 2007 and they were married on January 19, 2019. While this was not a traditional relationship, they fell in love and were looking forward to a long and happy future that unfortunately was not in God's plans for Katie.
Katie was an amazing young woman with a heart of gold. She was caring, stubborn, loving, funny and larger than life in a quiet way. Miss Katie (as her daycare kids call her) was a teacher and a caregiver to numerous children who she loved watching learn and grow. Katie put everyone before herself and always wanted to make sure those around her were healthy and happy which is why she became an organ donor. Katie's memory will live on with her family and those she touched throughout her 32 years forevermore. Katie passed Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Katie will be forever remembered by her husband, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, as well as the many daycare families and children that she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and other family members.
Funeral services will be held at the Faith United Church of Christ in Bayard, Nebraska, 104 E. 13th Street, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2019 with burial in the Chimney Rock Cemetery south of Bayard, Nebraska to follow.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 25, 2019 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Rev. Eric Spruth-Janssen officiating.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may go to Blessings from Above Day Care.
