Jennings - Arvilian Cormier, 74, of 1028 Cecile St, Jennings, died at 9:30 p.m., Friday, at his home after a long illness. The body is at the family home where it will remain until services are announced by Miguez Funeral Home. Mr Cormier was born in Rayne and had lived most of his life in Jennings. He was a retired laborer.
Survivors are his wife, Laura (Veronie LeJeune) Cormier of Jennings. Two sons: Lionel Cormier of Elton & Edley Cormier of Lake Charles. Five step-sons: Aluis & Wedley LeJeune of Jennings, Louis Agesson LeJeune of Lake Charles, Floyd LeJeune of Welsh & Garvin LeJeune of White Sands, New Mexico. (Garvin was in army at this time). One daughter: Mrs Leonie (Cormier) Trahan of Beaumont, Texas, two step-daughters: Mrs. Philip (Esther LeJeune) Bergeron & Mrs. Joe (Elrena LeJeune) Courville of Jennings. 25 grandchildren & 29 great-grandchildren.

Arvelain played the accordian & taught his son Lionel how to play. Arvelian's children with former marriage: Lionel (Musician). He is in Cajun Hall of Fame in The Depot Museum in Eunice, La.

Lionel - The Louisiana native was the son of Arvilian Cormier, who also played the accordion. He began to join in as an accordionist at house dances and informal family get-togethers when he was 12 years old. He wed Lizzie Bass in 1929, and the couple went on to raise two boys, Gene Nelson and Lesa. Before moving his young family to Elton, Cormier settled in the Louisiana town of Gueydan, where the region's rice fields provided employment. Upon moving to Elton, he took work in a sawmill.
Cormier suffered a fatal heart attack in 1971 during a benefit performance held at Lake Charles' Bamboo Club. His son, Lesa Cormier, became a drummer and his grandson, Danny Cormier, became a steel guitar player, to carry on Cormier's music with the Sundown Playboys. ~ Linda Seida, All Music Guide
