Dixie Ruth Aiken passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Taylor House Hospice following a stroke.

Dixie was born on January 18, 1931 to Pearl and Harry Riley in Milford, Kansas. Dixie, lived, worked and raised her family in Des Moines for the majority of her life. She graduated from North High School and attended Drake University for one year. In 1950 she married Frederick A. Aiken on December 16.

Dixie worked a number of jobs during her life and some of her favorites included as secretary for the Des Moines Police Department, admissions manager for Iowa Lutheran Hospital and as a medical claims clerk at Local 234 where she worked with her best friends Mary Lombardi and Penny Rounds. Dixie is survived by her husband, Fred, daughter, Laura (Don) Cormier, Wisconsin, son, Fred Aiken II, Ankeny, grandson Travis Lingenfelter, Arizona, granddaughter, TyAnn (Brady) Ellis, Mississippi, sister-in-law's, Louise Aiken, Shirley Aiken, brother-in-law, Jim Aiken, special niece Lana (Tom) Schlapkohl, and many nieces and nephews.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, Ginny and Blackie Blacksmith, sister, Margaret Oppenheim, son, Larry Aiken, sister-in-law Betty Bingham, brother-in laws, Bob Aiken and Phil Bingham. A celebration of her life will be held in January 2016 with family and her many friends.
