Abrams, Bruce N. died May 5, 2018 in San Diego, CA, he was 84. The cause of death was cancer. Bruce was President of Abrams Meat Distributors from 1970-84, a leading purveyor of quality steaks to restaurants in the five-state region (MN, ND, SD, IA, WI). The Meat Distributors was founded by Bruce's father Arthur, and sustained by collaborations with his brother, their uncle Bernhard, and many foremen, butchers, drivers, and sales and support staff. Born and raised in north Minneapolis, Bruce served in the U.S. Army (Korea) and then returned to the Twin Cities to attend university, continue working in his father's business, and start a family. After selling the meat business he moved to southern CA where he was a property manager, and a city Councilman in Rancho Mirage. Bruce was among the first elected officials in the U.S. to initiate and fight for a total smoking ban in restaurants, hotels, and bars. He loved history, golf, and his many family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Janet; children, Heidi and Michael; sister, Chelle (Rudick); and brother, Steve. A memorial service and reception will be held 1pm on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Temple Israel (2323 Fremont Ave S, 55405).
