Shelby, Capt. Moses. Rev. War Soldier, who was the son of Gen. Evan & Letitia Cox Shelby, born in Maryland, 31 Oct 1760, died in New Madrid, Missouri, 17 Sept 1828, whose wife was Millie Renfro. Moses Shelby was in a West Kentucky hunting party Jan 18, 1793 when his brother, Major Evan Shelby Jr. was killed by hostile Indians. In 1795 David Shelby, son of Gen. Evan Shelby, moved to New Madrid, Missouri after having served with Col. Henry Bouquet's punitive expedition against Mingo, Delaware, & Shawnee Indians in Ohio County. Following the Indian Wars, Moses Shelby also settled near New Madrid, Missouri, while Isaac Shelby remained on his lands in Livingston County besides the Cumberland River, not far from Hopkinsville.

Capt. Moses Shelby was a man of the hardiest make. Fought with the Southern Whigs against the Tories in the Rev. War 1775-1981. He was an idealism that recognized a supreme being, that planted religious liberty on our shores, overthrew despotism, that established a people's government that wrote a constitution setting metes and bounds of delegated authority that fixed a standard of value upon men above gold and lifted high the torch of liberty along the pathway of mankind; siege of Savannah 1779, battle of Cowpens 1780, capture of Agosta 1781, wounded at Kings Mountain 7 Oct 1780 where the patriots of Col. Isaac Shelby, John Seiver, Joseph McDowell, William Campbell & Benjamin Cleveland annihilated the British & Loyalists led by Major Patrick Ferguson & Capt. Abraham DePeyster of Lt. Gen. Earl Charles Cornwallis British Campaign in the South-ordered by Sir Clinton-paving the way to Cornwallis surrender at Yorktown 19 Oct 1781-to American Independence-our freedom.
