Originally buried in San Francisco, but starting circa 1900, most burials were removed from the City of San Francisco and re-interred south of the city at Colma.

"The death of Henry Axtel Lounsbury occurred in San Francisco, Cal., October 4, of heart disease, the culmination of a three years' illness which was spent in a hospital in that city. Deceased was born in Ovid, where his father, Dr. Lounsbury was for 25 years pastor of the Presbyterian church. He leaves one sister, Mrs. Caroline C. Wilson, of this village, and one brother, Thomas Lounsbury, professor of the Sheffield scientific department of the Yale university." (Oct. 12, 1898, The Ovid Independent, NY)
