Jesse E. Adams, 91, of Big Stone Gap, departed this life on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Norton Community Hospital. He was a life long resident of Wise County, born and raised on Thacker’s Branch in Norton (where he was known as “Bud”), then moving to Powell Valley upon his marriage to the love of his life, Helen Ruth Hall in 1952. There he remained happily raising his family, gardening, hunting and fishing for over six decades. He loved the Lord, fervently studying and preaching The Word for over thirty years at Big Springs Baptist Church in Cracker’s Neck. He retired from Witt Motor Company, Norton, Va. in 1990.
Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen, his parents Clarence Ray and Amanda Franklin Adams, sisters Irene McAmis, Alma Adams, Ruth Adams, Billie Spears, brothers, Beryl and Don Adams.
He is survived by his son, James Randall Adams and wife Nancy of Anthony, Fla., granddaughter, Amanda Adams of Ocala, Fla., daughter, Suzanne Adams-Ramsey and husband Mark of Powell Valley, step-grandson, Caleb Ramsey (Jessica) of Wise, Va., sisters Sue Yarhouse of Richmond, Va., Louise Snodgrass (Carl) of Wise, Va., and Mary Doris Adams of Norton, Va.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 2, at Holding Funeral Home from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted on Sunday, March 3 at 11:00 a.m. at American Legion Cemetery.
