Meredith Littleton Jennings ,Sr. 93¸ of 1138 S. Fitzgerald Avenue died Sunday, February 24, 2019, at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.
Mr. Jennings was born September 2, 1925, in Alleghany County a son of the late James and Stella Carter Jennings. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, James “Snooky” Jennings, Billy Jennings and William “Binky” Jennings and two sisters, Sue Farmer and Elsie McCormick and a grandson, Todd Jennings.
He had retired in 1987 as a millwright after 41 years with MeadWestvaco. He was a member of Cliffdale Christian Church, Covington Lodge #610,Loyal Order of Moose and Curtis A. Smith Post #1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are four Sons, Meredith “Bugs” Jennings, Jr. and William Jennings, both of Covington, Gary Jennings of Clifton Forge and Tim Jennings and girlfriend Julie Leonard of Ash, NC; his companion Betty Adams of Clifton Forge, eight grandchildren, Scott Jennings, Marla Toombs, Lori Jennings and Summer Jennings, all of Covington, Sylvia Moats of Charleston, SC, Michael Jennings of Nashville, TN, Michelle Shamblin of Selma and Tatum Jennings of Ash, NC; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 2, 2019, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Christian officiating. Interment will be made in Mount Pleasant Church Cemetery. The family will receive their friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Arritt Funeral Home.
