Elizabeth, first wife of Joseph Baldwin (about 1637 - 1681) was probably born about 1642. We know nothing of her parentage, and there is no marriage record for her marriage to Joseph Baldwin, sometimes referred to as Joseph Baldwin Jr. She probably married Joseph while Joseph was living in Milford, Connecticut, and likely moved with her husband and family when they moved to Hadley, Massachusetts. Her name is not listed in birth records for Joseph's oldest children (born in Milford), namely Joseph, Mary, and James (i.e., only the father is listed), BUT IS listed in the original birth records for daughters Mehitabell, Hannah, Mercy, and Hannah, all born in Hadley; it is likely she was the mother of all 7. She died sometime between the time that Hannah #2 was born in 1675/6 and the time that Joseph's son Samuel was born with his second wife Sarah Coley.

Some secondary sources for Elizabeth include:
1. The best source for Joseph Baldwin and his two wives is a recent article written by David Kendall Martin in The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, January 2002, Volume 156, page 103, entitled "Joseph Baldwin, Jr. of Milford, Connecticut, and Hadley, Massachusetts." If you are not using this source, the information you are looking at regarding Joseph is out of date.
2. History of Hadley: Including the Early History of Hatfield, South Hadley, Amherst and Granby, Massachusetts..." published 1905
3. The Baldwin Genealogy (has several errors) - published 1881
4. Families of Early Milford, Connecticut (has several errors) - published 1979
