Baxter Springs, KS: Ruth Loree King, age 92, went to be with the Lord on March 2, 2019 at 5:52 PM at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO. She was born on September 2, 1926 at home in Neutral, KS. Her parents were James W. King and Josie A. (Osburn) King. She lived in this area all of her life, and was a graduate of Riverton High School in 1944.
She worked at the Baxter Memorial Hospital as a unit clerk for 32 years until it closed in 1991. At the same time, she worked at Versoy Electric of Baxter for 39 years.
Ruth loved to travel which included a trip to Europe with her good friend, Goldie Cook. She was a volunteer at Freeman and St. John's hospitals helping with hospice and wherever needed. For 10 years she did volunteer work in New York City at the Lambs Church of the Nazarene working with the homeless. She especially loved helping in the clinic washing feet and giving personal care.
Ruth was a member of the Calvary Church of the Nazarene in Joplin. She gave her heart and life to Jesus at the Baxter Springs Church of the Nazarene in 1979. She loved working with the young people. She had a life of love and service.
Preceding her in death were her parents, James and Josie King; one brother, Ivan King; and one nephew, Bob King.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty King; two nephews, Leon King of Columbus, and Larry King (wife, Belinda) of Baxter Springs; four nieces, Sondra Davis (husband, Bruce) of Baxter Springs, Barbara Nicholas of Joplin, Kathy Cookerly (husband, John) of Joplin, and Cheryl Campbell (husband, Brian) of Riverton; a niece-in-law, Nancy King; 19 great nephews and nieces; 31 great-great nephews and nieces, and special friends Don and Betty Karnes, the Mike Cook family, and many other friends.
Thank You to the many people who were a part of her life. She loved each and every one of you.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the Baxter Springs Church of the Nazarene under the direction of Derfelt's Baxter Chapel. Pastor Wesley Anderson will officiate. Pallbearers serving are Rodney King, Ross King, Clayton King, Lance King, Jonathan King, Steven Tyler, James King, Matt King, and David Massey, with Don Karnes and Mike Cook as honorary pallbearers. Burial will follow the funeral service at Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Baxter Springs.
Visitation will take place at the church on the same day beginning at 10:00 AM.
