Rhynard L. Abbett, age 92, of Huntington, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at 3:19 am at Parkview Huntington Hospital. He served in the US Army in Japan in WWII. He worked in maintenance for the Erie Lakawana Railroad for 17 years, for E-Systems for 17 years, and then as building maintenance supervisor for the Chronicle Tribune for 5 years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and VFW Post #2689.
Rhynard was born on August 24,1926, in Zanesville, a son of Oral William and Goldie (Branstrator) Abbett. On August 24, 1946 he married his beloved wife of 69 years Mary L.(Stell) Abbett in Huntington. She passed away April 3, 2015. He is survived by daughter-in-law Connie Abbett, 6 grandchildren Brandi (J.D.) Pass, Chris (Carrie) Abbett, Shane Pulley, Terra (Roger) Finderson, Carrie M. Abbett, and Traci Abbett and 5 great-grandchildren Caylie Abbett, Kennedi Pass, Delaney Finderson, Zaira Finderson, D’Artagnan Finderson. He was preceded in death by daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Pulley, son, Terry Abbett, great-grandson, Cade Abbett, 2 sisters, Vesta Hitzfield and Virginia Schaller and 3 brothers, John Abbett, William Abbett and Phillip Abbett.
Deal-Rice Funeral Homes is entrusted with the private services. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory.
In lieu of flowers preferred memorials are to Riley’s Children’s Hospital in memory of Cade Allen R. Abbett c/o Deal-Rice Funeral Home, 338 E. Washington St., Huntington, IN 46750.
