Major 1 Mass. Regt. Rev. War
Became a captain in the 5th Massachusetts Regiment Jan. 1, 1777. [Note "1 Mass Regt" listed above] Oct 11, 1777 He bravely captured Burgoynes store boats in the face of the enemy at the mouth of Fishkill. Under orders of General Gates with 7 scouts he captured 129 prisoners before Oct 7th. Wounded and captured at King’s Bridge, N.Y., in August 1778 and was exchanged in October 1779. Goodale then served to the end of the war, being brevetted a major a few weeks before the army was disbanded.
Taken captive on March 1, 1793 by Wyandot Indians near Belpre, Ohio. While being moved to Detroit, he fell sick. He died and was buried at Whitaker Farm in what is now Sandusky Township, Sandusky County, Ohio.
