Education: Mitchell Hill Grade School, Rosedale; Rosedale High School, Class of 1934; BS Degree, ECU, Ada, and Masters Degree, OU, Norman.

Marriage: Lois Knight, Feb. 26, 1938.

Teaching career: 1940, grades 1-8, 1-room schoolhouse, Freeny, near Blanchard, OK.; Cole: 3 yrs.; Rosedale; Newcastle: high school principal and coach: 3 yrs.; Bridge Creek: superintendent, 8 yrs.;1957: Lexington, teacher and basketball coach, 19 yrs until retirement.

Military: June 1944 U.S. Navy, Leyta Gulf, Philippines.

He was a member of the Lexington First Baptist Church since 1958 where he taught Sunday school for many years.

Preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Lois, Dec. 2002, and brothers, Edgar and Arthur Russell.

Survivors: son, Bill Russell, Purcell; daughter, Nelda Matthews and her husband, David L., Purcell; sister-in-law, Pearl Russell, Alex; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers: Bill, Logan, Clayton and Jim Russell, David Matthews and Buddy Baker.

Honorary pallbearers: Jim Hunter, James Alexander, W.M. Neal, Jack Voyles, Cal Hobson, Jack Herron, Kenneth Russell, Blake Western and Willie Carl Russell.
