GLOUSTER MAN IS KILLED WHEN HIT BY OWN CAR
A Glouster man died last night in O'Bleness Hospital from injuries he received yesterday afternoon when his car rolled over him and dragged him down an embankment.
Norman E. Jenkins, 64, had parked his 1963 model auto along St. Route 13 about 7 miles north of Chauncey and began filling the radiator with water, according to the State Highway Patrol.
While he was working under the hood, the car lurched forward and rolled over him, then dragged Jenkins down an embankment, hitting a sign and a tree and coming to rest on some railroad tracks.
Jenkins was taken to the hospital at approximately 3:25 p.m. by ambulance for treatment of multiple fractures and internal injuries. He died at 10 p.m.
Born in Athens County, he was a son of the late William and Nettie Harper Jenkins. He was a custodian at Ohio University and a former coal miner.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lucille Palmer Jenkins; three sons, Norman Robert and Paul, all of Glouster; three daughters, Mrs. Joan Holmes, Mrs. Faye Mayle and Miss Karen Jenkins, all of Glouster; and 13 grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Services will be Sunday, 1 p.m. at the Van Fossen Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Watkins officiating. Burial will be in the Glouster Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Saturday.
