He graduated from Hialeah High School, in 1962, and went on the attend Samford University in Birmington, Alabama, where he graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts. He then attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and earned a Masters of Divinity in 1973.
He pastored several churches in Alabama and Florida. His love was being a minister.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Joan Theresa Shaffer; daughter, Debbie Jones (Eric); two sons, Robert Alexander Shaffer M. D. (Drew) and James Lee Shaffer (Cody); step-daughter, Michele Davis Kirkum (Josh); and 13 grandchildren.
If he could share one thing with you it would be from the Bible, John 14:6: JESUS, said, I AM THE WAY AND THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE. NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH ME.
