Phillip L. Frantz, 87, of Grayling (formerly of Cheboygan) passed away on March 6, 2019. Phillip was born in Lansing on December 12, 1931 to the late Kenneth and Elizabeth (Odette) Frantz. Phillip proudly served in the US Navy and retired after 22 years as a Lt. Commander.
Some of the awards he earned were China Service Medal, Korean Service Stars, Vietnam Service Medal with two stars, Navy Achievement Medal, Korean PUC, United Nations, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After retirement, Phillip worked for 12 years at the Indian River Golf Club - he was passionate about golf. Phillip married Betty J. Petroskey on June 8, 1985.
Survived by his wife Betty of 33 years.
Sons: Earl Frantz and Troy Frantz.
Step-children: Dawn (Mike) Laway, Chip (Kim) Drake, Debra (Eric) Smith, Joseph (Colleen) Drake, Thomas Drake, Charles Drake, and Sandra Meyer.
Sister: Lois Vulpi and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Clyde, and sister Mary Jacopetti.
A celebration of life with military honors will be held this summer. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Lansing.
