Ernest "Clyde" Bowling, 82, of Beckley, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 1, 2001, at 10:40 a.m. at his home following a short illness. Mr. Bowling was a former co-owner and operator of Lowe Brothers Electric Company and was a faithful member of the Bible Baptist Church at Sophia. He had lived in Kingsport, TN, from 1988 to 1990, where he was a former member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher. Mr. Bowling was a member of the VFW Post No. 4469, was post quarter master from 1984 to 1985, and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Born September 2, 1918, he was the son of the late James William "Willie" Bowling (1861-1937) and Minerva Jane Meadows-Lilly-Bowling (1878-1955). He was preceded in death by his first wife, Agnes Mae Pack-Bowling (1918-1998); and his half-siblings, Audy Washington Lilly (1895–1967), Edna Mabel Bowling-Nunley (1883–1935), Nancy A. Bowling (1885–1903), Anna Laura Bowling-Lilly (1887–1948), and James Arthur Bowling (1894–1928).

Survivors include his wife, Eunice Meadows-Bowling; a son, Rev. David Clyde Bowling & wife Jackie Bowling of Jamestown, TN; a daughter, Sharon K. Bowling-Daugherty & husband Larry Daugherty of Kingsport, TN; two brothers, Elbert Ray Bowling (1916-2001) of Greenville, SC, and Clayton Earl Bowling (1920-2012) of West Salem, OH; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services to celebrate his life and home-going will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Bible Baptist Church in Sophia, with Pastor Wayne Holder and David C. Bowling officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum, Beckley. Friends may call 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. today at the funeral home and one hour before the services Saturday at the church. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Oak Hill VFW Post.
