On Tuesday, March 12th, 2019, our most loved, Charlene Thrasher passed on to Heaven to become an angel. She was in her 75th year.

One of ten children, Charlene was born on August 11th, 1943 at Eccles. She was the daughter of the late Fred Tilden and Ethel McMillion Mitchem. Her siblings, Virginia Mays, Freddie Blankenship, Jim Mitchem, Arbutus Meadows, Doff Mitchem, Ardith Shumate and Saundra Allen have preceded her in death. She is the dear sister of Donna Godby (James) and Carol Muovich. A large extended family of nieces and nephews survive.

Charlene spent her childhood at Eccles, graduating from Trap Hill High School. A program analyst for the Department of Agriculture in Washington DC, Charlene made her home in Northern Virginia for many years. She and her beloved husband, Emil Thrasher, an Arkansas native whom she married in 1984, retired to Smith Mountain Lake in 1995. In 2007, they settled in Lewisburg . Charlene was of the Christian faith. In her leisure time she has enjoyed a ministry of visiting folks in nursing homes , reading and going to yard sales.

In addition to Emil and her sisters, Charlene leaves to cherish her memory her loving sons, Theron Hager (Carolyn) and Erik Hager (Barbie); she is the fond step mother of David Thrasher (Angie). Her step daughter, Leigh Anne Thrasher has preceded her in death as well. There are seven grandchildren, Brittini, Brian, Blair, Benjamin, Tyler, Madison and Dylan; two great- granddaughters, Winter and Eden.

Charlenel was also blessed to have in her life, her person assistant and friend, Bea Phillips and special friends, Lisa Kahn, Regretta Church and Melissa Seldomridge.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 18th at 1:00 pm in the Melton Mortuary Chapel, 1200 Harper Road, Beckley. The Rev. Dr. Dallas Smith will be officiating. Charlene will be laid to rest in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Prosperity. The family will be receiving friends at 12:30 pm on Monday at the mortuary.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 18th, at 1:00 pm in the Melton Mortuary Chapel. The burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. The family is receiving friends at 12:30 pm on Monday at the mortuary.
