ALTHAUS SERVICES TO BE HELD TODAY

BLUFFTON, Feb. 13 - Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon for Varner Althaus, 66, former Bluffton resident, who died at the home of his niece in Toledo following a stroke of paralysis. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Bertha Hahn, of Bluffton, where preliminary rites will be held. Further services will be held at three o'clock at the M.E. church, Rev. O. P. Huffman will officiate and burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery, Bluffton, Ohio.

HOLD FUNERAL HERE FOR WERNER ALTHAUS

Werner Althaus aged sixty six years, former Bluffton resident, who was for many years a well known musician in theatrical circles, died early Monday morning at the home of his niece, Mrs. Glen Eichelberger in Toledo. His death followed a period of failing health.

The remains were brought to Bluffton from Toledo, Tuesday in the Basinger funeral car and taken to the home of of his sister, Mrs. Fred Hahn of West Elm street.
Funeral services were held here Wednesday afternoon in the Methodist church with Rev. O. P. Hoffman pastor of the church officiating. Interment was made in Maple Grove cemetery where the Masonic burial ritual was exemplified by members of the Bluffton lodge.

Mr/ Althaus was the son of Rudolph Althaus, pioneer Bluffton residents. As a child he was baptized in the Reformed church here.

A marked musical talent which he showed as a youth was consistently developed and at the age of twenty five years, he accepted a position as cornetist in the band of the Al G. Fields Minstrels. For many years he toured the country with some of the leading minstrel organization including Dockstagter's and Primrose & West.

For the past twenty-five years he was located in Toledo where he was connected with an oil company but he still pursed his musical activities, being violinist in the Toledo Symphony orchestra. He was a member of the board of directors of the Toledo musicians union and also a member of the Rubison lodge, F. & A.M. of Toledo.

Mr. Althaus was well known here visiting frequently at the home of his sister, Mrs. Hahn. Besides his sister, he is survived by one brother, Andrew Althaus of Toledo.
