Born in Greenville, on April 7, 1923, the daughter of the late James Crawford and Mamie Fraser Armstrong, and wife of the late George P. Hoffmann Jr. of Greenville, she was a former member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and recently Providence Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by four children, Nancy Hoffmann Collins of Manassas, Va., George Peter Hoffmann III of Greenville, James Armstrong Hoffmann of Easley, and William Andrew Hoffmann of Greenville; brothers, Henry Bouchier Armstrong of Greenville and Dixon Fraser Armstrong of Lake Wales, Fla., and the late James Crawford Armstrong Jr. of Greenville, Thomas Bouchier Armstrong of Spartanburg, and Eugene Shipman Armstrong of Greenville; and eight grandchildren.
Shadie graduated from Greenville High School in 1940 and attended Winthrop College. Following college, she was employed by the Greenville YWCA and continued to be involved with the organization for many years. Shadie became a licensed realtor and, worked for Joy Real Estate during the 1980s. She organized and directed the Greenville Theater tour for over 25 years. Shadie was an avid bridge player and became a Life Master of the game.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at Springwood Cemetery in downtown Greenville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Greenville YWCA, 700 Augusta Street, Greenville, SC 29605.
