Private family interment services will take place in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Paul Bengtson officiating. There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Chantland is survived by her son, Dennis (Ruth) Chantland of Danville, CA; daughter, Joyce (Duane) Roemhildt of Faribault, MN; four grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Cutts of Owatonna, MN, Kent Roemhildt of W. St. Paul, MN, Mark Chantland of San Ramon, CA, and Jennifer (Jeff) Schulte of San Mateo, CA; two great-grandchildren, Katie and Lauren Schulte; sisters, Laila Wilson of Naples, FL, Marion Helvick of Humboldt, Agnes Berg of Humboldt, and Barbara Johnson of Harcourt; and brothers, Earl Opheim and Wayne Opheim, both of Mason City. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Chantland; sisters, Velma Johnson and Orpha Johnson; and brother, Keith Opheim.
Doris J. Opheim, the daughter of Carl and Selma (Sween) Opheim, was born December 18, 1917 at Bode, Iowa and received her education at Ottosen and Bode Schools. Following her graduation from Bode High School in 1935, Doris worked for Dr. Hanson in Humboldt. She was united in marriage to William Chantland on November 22, 1938. The couple farmed near Bode until 1956 when they moved to Humboldt. Doris was employed by the Reasoner Casket Company until her retirement. Mr. Chantland's health declined and Doris cared for him until his death in September of 1983. She continued to maintain her home in Humboldt until becoming a resident of the Humboldt Care Center North in August of 2001.
Mrs. Chantland was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church where she was active in E.L.C.W. and enjoyed playing cards.
