YORK Edward L. Boeckel, 82, died Monday, June 4, 2007, at 5:15 p.m. at Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Bonnie J. (Signs) Boeckel, who died March 18, 1992. There will be no viewing. Following cremation, a graveside service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Procession will form at 10:45 a.m. at Pennsylvania Ave. entrance. Officiating at the service will be his former pastor, the Rev. John A. Denlinger. Mr. Boeckel was born September 28, 1924, in York. He was the son of the late Emmanuel H. and Mary Josephine (Ness) Boeckel. Mr. Boeckel retired from Sears, where he was manager of building materials for 36 years. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations. He was a graduate of William Penn High School, Class of 1942, and a graduate of Gettysburg College. Mr. Boeckel was a member of the former Emmanuel United Church Of Christ.He was a member of AARP; Briarwood Golf League; Cool Creek Senior Golf League; and a life member of Goodwill Fire Co and Twelfth Ward Independent Democratic Club. Mr. Boeckel is survived by a son, Edward L. Boeckel, Jr. and his wife, Kathy of Vineland, N.J.; three grandchildren, Lea Grove, Dustin Boeckel, and Lindsay Boeckel, all of York; and three great-grandsons, Preston, Caden and Luke.
