DAVID VERNON CARTER, 89, of TINTON FALLS, passed away Wednesday, April 23, at Renaissance Gardens, Tinton Falls. He was born in Jasper, Ark. and lived in Ocean Township and then in Hobe Sound, Fla. for 20 years before moving to Tinton Falls four years ago. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Administration Corps. during World War II. He received his bachelor's degree from Southwestern Tech. and his Masters degree in Hospital Administration from Northwestern University. He was the president and C.E.O. of Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune from 1947 until his retirement in 1982. David was very active and involved in many organizations. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church on the Hill in Ocean Township. He was a fellow of the American College of Hospital Executives and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Health in London, England. He was the past president of the New Jersey Hospital Association, the Middle Atlantic Hospital Assembly and the Asbury Park Lions Club. David was a past member of the Monmouth County Health Council, the Neptune Civil Defense Board, the Monmouth County Cancer Society, the Monmouth County T.B. Board, the Ocean Grove Lodge 238, the Elks Lodge in Jasper, Fla., the Associate Board of the 1st Merchants Bank, Neptune, and a board member of the 1st Jersey National Bank, Jersey City. David loved to play golf and enjoyed painting.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Shirley, in 1985; and his brother, William Carter. He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Wheeler of Fair Haven; his son, Bruce Carter and his wife Carol of Lost Creek, W.Va.; his daughter, Nancy Carter and her partner Carol Torre of Asbury Park; his granddaughters, Katie Wheeler, Kelly Wheeler, and Denise Layne and her husband Vincent; and his sister, Geneva Doyal.
