Mr. Dennis Howard Gunter, 76, of Gloria Street, Hartwell, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Greenville Memorial Hospital, Greenville SC.
Born on September 8, 1942 in Elberton GA, he was the son of the late James Howard Gunter and Mazelle Locke Gunter. Dennis was the owner of Gunter Masonry and a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church, where he was known as the “Candy Man”.
Survivors include his wife: Velma Porter Gunter; his children: Todd Gunter of Lavonia, Denise Gunter Smith (Paul) of Lavonia, Judy Frye of Hartwell, Joey Mackey of Hartwell and Lewis Burdette (Christa) of Comer; a sister: Carol Walters of Elberton and five grandchildren: Ian Frye, Will Isom, Chase Burdette, Kate Isom and Taylor Gunter also survive.
Mr. Gunter was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Larry Gunter and Steve Gunter and a son: Kelly Burdette.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Terry Meeks and Dr. Larry Finger officiating. Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park. The family asks that the Dairy Queen Breakfast Crowd serve as honorary pallbearers.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening. The family will be at the home. Flowers optional, memorials may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1543 Anderson Hwy, Hartwell GA 30643.
