Born March 27, 1917 in Beaver, he was a son of the late Layton Howard and Myrtle (Weigle) Proffitt. A graduate of Beaver High School, William went on to proudly serve in the United States Army during World War II. He returned to Beaver County to work at J & L Steel Co., where he retired after a long career. In his spare time, William was a member of the Masons.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlotte (Miller) Proffitt, and sisters, Eleanor Glass and Clare Baer. He will be greatly missed by his five nieces and nephews.
As per William's wishes, there will be no public visitation.
