Lillian "Lilly" Marie Borgwardt, age 88, a resident of River Wood Estates, Manitowoc, died peacefully with friends at her side early Wednesday morning, November 23, 2011 after a brief illness with cancer.
Lillian was born November 7, 1923, in the town of Liberty, daughter of the late Herman and Hedwig (Lutzke) Ibe. She attended Liberty Bell and Trinity Lutheran School. On December 12, 1942 she married Herbert R. Borgwardt at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in the town of Liberty. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1995. She and her husband, Herbert farmed together for many years in the town of Liberty. Lilly was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Lilly enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, tending to her flowers, making homemade bread and cookies, and playing sheepshead with her friends.
Lilly is survived by a few cousins and many friends including her special friends, Donald and Marilyn Hammel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Borgwardt.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 27, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church, town of Liberty. Officiating at the service is Rev. Gregory Pope with burial at the church cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church or Manitowoc Lutheran High School.
The Christianson & Deja Funeral Home, Valders, is assisting with funeral arrangements. Lilly appreciated the love and compassionate care shown to her by CNA's at River Wood Estates, and Southern Care Hospice. She also enjoyed the daily visits with her friend, Bernice Vetting, and Pastor Pope.
