Anthony Charles Dickerson was born June 9, 1957 in Texas City, Galveston County, Texas. His parents were Francis Edward and Florence Smith Dickerson. His family moved to Pearland, Texas in 1957. Anthony Dickerson attended the Ralph A. Bunche School in Manvel, Texas until the third grade. At Pearland High School, he was a 3 year starter at running back and also played linebacker. He received All American honors as a senior at Pearland High School. He graduated from Pearland High School in 1975. He began his college career at Henderson County Junior College. He was a Junior College All American and All Conference Linebacker in 1976. In 1977, Dickerson transferred to Southern Methodist University where he was named Co-Captain and a starter at linebacker.
