Ralph Joseph Lirette Sr., 81, a native and resident of Houma, died at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004.
Visitation will be from 3 to 10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at Chauvin Funeral Home. Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
He is survived by his loving companion of 17 years, Ruby Alloway of Houma; five sons, Ralph J. Lirette Jr. and wife, Susan, Donald F. Lirette and wife, Oma, Mark S. Lirette and wife, Anne, Merlin A. Lirette and Mitchell J. Lirette and wife, Betsy, of Houma; one daughter, Sandra L. Boutwell and husband, Doug, of Houma; three stepsons, Larry Breaux of Mansura, Richard Breaux and Kenneth Breaux of New Iberia; eight sisters, Shirley L. Allemand, Lillie L. Allemand, Pearl L. Duplantis, Bella L. Deroche, Grace L. Zeringue, Ruth L. Hebert, Dorothy "Dot" L. Hebert of Houma and Ella L. Ford of Patterson; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cordrey Adams Lirette; his parents, Henry Joseph Lirette and Lilly LeBouef Lirette; one stepdaughter, Deanna Domingue; three brothers, Herbert A. Lirette, Paul H. Lirette and Avery J. Lirette; and one sister, Sophie Lirette Guidry Bent.
He was a retired self-employed welder and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars and was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, hunter and farmer.
He was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.
