Albert A. (Al) Harmon, Jr., 54, of 417 Canterbury, died Friday evening in a San Antonio hospital after a 20 year illness.

He was the son of the late Albert Austin Harmon, Sr. and Lula Robbins of Bennington, Vermont. He had resided in Corpus Christi for the past 17 years. After receiving a degree in Business Administration from Boston College, Worcester, Mass., he served as Chief Accountant at the Federal Land Bank in Springfield, Mass. He served as a First Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp as a pilot in World War II with overseas duty in the Philippines. He contracted multiple sclerosis while in the service and was a totally disabled veteran. After his discharge from the Army Air Corp in 1946, he served as sales representative for the Burroughs Corporation, being selected as the youngest Burroughs Sales Representative and Designer of Custom Business Machines to win the National Sales Award. He also served as Burroughs Branch Manager in Hartford, Connecticut and in Brooklyn, New York. While residing in Wantagh, Long Island, New York, he was a charter member and initiated the building and administration of the First Baptist Church in that area of Long Island. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Corpus Christi, and the YMCA Health Club. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Springfield, Massachusetts.

He is survived by his wife, Martha L. Harmon; and a daughter who is a graduate student at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos.

Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church Chapel Tuesday with Dr. Vernon O. Elmore officiating. Interment will follow in Seaside Memorial Park. In lieu of the usual remembrances, the family encourages contributions to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the American Cancer Society, or the American Diabetes Society. Cage-Mills Everhart Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
