ANDERSON
FIR MOUNTAIN (Special) Funeral service for Leonard Elvin Anderson, 77, pioneer rancher of the district, and a charter member of the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association, was held in Fir Mountain Community Hall. Burial was in Fir Mountain Cemetery with Ross Funeral Home in charge.
Born at Campbell County, S.D., in 1891 he moved to Rock Creek south of Fir Mountain with his young bride, Aquina, in 1911.
Mr. Anderson raised cattle, sheep and horses on his ranch. He was especially fond of horses and for many years supplied farmers with their work horses. His cow camps often provided a haven of rest for the night and a meal for the traveller.
A strong belief in soil conservation and the preservation of wildlife was prompted by his great love for the out-of-doors. The promotion of rodeos, horse racing, picnics and baseball was part of his community activities.
He is survived by his wife; 7 sons, Lawrence of Manderville, Jamaica, Cliff and Martin, both of Calgary, Gene, Boyd, Jim and Carl, all of Fir Mountain; five daughters, Mrs. Revel Mongomery of Calgary, Mrs. Ronald Barber of Weyburn, Mrs Emile Poirier of Fir Mountain and Mrs. Elvin Mitchell and Mrs. Frank Linthicum, both of Glentworth.
