San Juan Prospector, February 8, 1902
Herbert Scott, one of the Scott Brothers, who formerly lived at Del Norte, died of pneumonia in Cripple Creek Tuesday noon last, after a short illness. Deceased leaves a bride of less than a year - a daughter of Mr. A. H. Clark of Del Norte, who will have the heartfelt sympathy of many friends.
The remains reached Del Norte Thursday morning and the funeral took place under Masonic auspices at 1 o'clock p.m. that day, and was largely attended.
The death of Mr. Scott is a particularly sad one, and the Prospector joins many other friends of the surviving relatives in extending sympathy.
The Daily Press of Cripple Creek of February 5, says of the death of Mr. Scott: Charles H. Scott died at his residence in t his city yesterday after a brief struggle with the dread pneumonia. He was 35 years old, and apparently in the prime of his life. He came here from Del Norte a year ago bringing with him a charming young bride, who had been Mrs. Nettie Clark. The prospects of a young couple never seemed brighter. He held a good position at the Gold Coin mine, and was popular with his fellow employees, while all their neighbors and friends were rejoicing in the success and happiness of their matrimonial venture. Mr. Scott was a member of Olive Branch Lodge of Masons located at Saguache, and of Victor Miners' Union No. 32 W.F.M.A. The funeral will take place this afternoon from Dunn's undertaking rooms, and will be attended by the Masonic fraternity and Miners' Union. The body will be removed to Del Norte by way of the Short Line at 3:55.
