THE firm of Messrs. D. Anderson & Sons, clubmakers, St. Andrews, is a well-known one in the golfing world and has the reputation of being one of the oldest—if not, indeed, the oldest—golfing family in the trade. The present heads of the firm are related to the late Allan Robertson, and the senior partner's father, familiarly known in St. Andrews as " Old Da," was a well-known ballmaker in the time of the old feather ball, being likewise green-keeper there for five years, 1854-59; while his brother is Jamie Anderson, who for three years in succession, 1877-78-79, held the open championship, defying all efforts to oust him during that time.

The present members of the firm are worthily upholding the golfing traditions of their family, being all prominent members of that powerful combination, the St. Andrews' Golf Club. The eldest son, David, took second place in the open championship of 1888, and on several occasions since has won prizes in championships and other important tournaments ; and the second, Walter, has won the autumn medal (scratch) of the' St. Andrews' Club. Now it is a well-known and indisputable axiom that if you wish a good club get it from a man who is a good player; therefore it cannot be wondered at that the goods which Messrs Anderson & Sons put out are of excellent quality and workmanship and always give entire satisfaction.

Although having a fair share of the local trade of St. Andrews, it is in the export department of their business that this firm excel, their goods going far and near, to all quarters of the globe where golf has penetrated. It is this firm that have met with such signal success in the recovering of the various kinds of rubber-cored balls.

They have also many specialities of their own, such as their diamond - backed iron clubs, the new "Excelsior putters, and the wooden socket clubs, fitted with "Texa " ash shafts.

Another and most important feature of their business is their ability to have wooden clubs most accurately copied. Our photograph shows Mr. D. Anderson (seated in centre) with his five sons.
