"Drowned- Mr. William Isles (that is how they spelled it in the newspaper-note from Ann), a highly respectable citizen of Bath County, was drowned in the Licking (river), near his mill dam, a few days since, by the accidental upsetting of his boat.--He, together with his miller and two children, had just crossed the stream and made the boat fast to the shore, when the cable broke loose, and the boat floated down and upset at the dam. Mr. Isles who was an expert swimmer, seeing his children struggling in t he water, lost his presence of mind and sunk. The children were saved."
