Betty L. Varner, 88, was called home by the Lord on April 8, 2019, at her residence at Cedar Grove Assisted Living surrounded by the love of family, friends and caring staff.

She was born in Parkersburg, WV, the daughter of the late Leslie L. and Edith E. Anthony.

Betty was part of The Independent Baptist Church in Vienna. She loved crafting including sewing, crocheting, and ceramics. She enjoyed hospitality and would cook wonderful meals for family, friends, and neighbors whom she loved hosting. She cared for many little children and cherished them all.

She is survived by her beloved husband of more than 70 years, Ernest M. Varner, who remained at her side all her days. Her sons, Steve, of Torch, OH; Rick (Debbie) of Charlotte, NC, and David Brent (Sara) of Parkersburg, WV; and a daughter, Dena (Seth) Jones, of Marietta, OH. Her grandchildren , Valerie Varner, Tony (Stacy) Varner, Justin (Cheryl) Johns, Jamie Johns, Jason Varner, Jeff (Nicole) Varner, Tyler (Lindsay) Jones, Olivia Jones, Alaina Jones, Alex Jones and great grandchildren Evan, Landon, Chloe, Owen, Ayden, Jakob, Theodore, Jaedyn, Eva and Ruby. And siblings Jean Caplinger of Parkersburg, WV, Gary (Sandy) Anthony of Yuma, AZ, Mike (Mandy) Anthony of Vienna, WV, and Jean Anthony of Parkersburg, WV, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by two brothers, Graden and Gale Anthony, and a daughter in law, Vickie Varner.

Services will be Thursday, April 11, at 11:00 am at Leavitt Funeral Home of Parkersburg with Pastor Mike Elder and Pastor Rick Kapple officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
