Born May 14, 1917, in Fryburg, he was the son of the late James W. and Sophia Schoenhofer Beichner.
Mr. Beichner grew up in Van and graduates in 1915 from Rockland High School. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1939 and graduated first in his class at the Casey Jones School of Aeronatics. He was considered one of the two most knowledgeable specialists on propellers.
Mr. Beichner flew "the Hump" during WWII, participated inthe Berlin airlift and evacuated wounded from Korea during the Korean conflict.
He survives three plane crashes and a train wreck. He had known Charles Lindbergh and had met Gen. Dwight Eisenhower.
Upon retiring from the Air Force after 23 years, Mr. Beichne worked as a sports fishing guide and also worked for Tiny Lund as a mechanic when Lund won the Daytona 500 auto race.
Mr. Beichner later worked for Pratt & Whitney, where his crew set the engines in Gemini space vehicles in America's early space program.
After that, he worked as a maintenance mechanic and a machinist for AVCO and Exxon in a textile plant.
Mr. Beichner was married to the former Bernice Lodge of Florida. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, William Beichner of Baycliff, TX, Michael Beichner of Asheville, MC, and Richard Beichner of Knightsville, SC, and four daughters, Patrica Jobe of FL, Barbara Adriani of MD, Katherine Dixson of FL, and Theresa Hays of Augusta, GA.
Mr. Beichner is also survived by a step daughtrer, Irene Stewart of Columbus, GA; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by six sisters, Ruth Tidball of Franklin, Margaret Rateau of Hampton VA, Helen Schettler of CA, Gertrude Hadl of LaBelle, FL, Jean Craig of Butler and Patricia Farley of Bethel Park, and two brothers, James Beichner of Oil City and Joseph Beichner of Knox.
Private services will be held at a later date. The body will be cremated and the cremains buried at Calvary cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
