Jack E. Lewis, 74, of Mexia, passed away April 10, 2019. Burial will be at Sardis Cemetery.

Jack was born August 21, 1944, in Coolidge, Texas, to the late Elmer Lee “Babe” and Ozelle Vada Douthit Lewis. He attended Coolidge schools, graduating in 1962. Jack married his lifelong partner, Carolyn Lane on June 29, 1963, in Mexia, Texas. His working career began with a job delivering pecans to numerous cities for Toesack Jackson, then, he worked as a truck driver in the '70s and retired from Nucor Steel in the '90s.

After retirement, Jack began a “long love” for the farm where he spent endless hours tinkering with tractors, plowing, riding horses or just whatever he felt like doing at the time; however, the family was his first love. Jack was always supportive of his children and grandchildren. He traveled many miles to watch his kids, grandkids and now, great-grandkids play sports, but, he was their biggest fan, no matter what they were participating in.

Jack thoroughly enjoyed going to the beach, whether it be with family or just a trip for him and Carolyn. He also liked listening to all types of music, but Blues music was his favorite.

He was preceded in death by his sisters: Betty Lou Broughton, Juanita Carroll, Diane Hansen, and Gloria Tidwell; brothers, Charles “Charlie” Lewis and Terry Don Lewis.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carolyn Lewis, of Mexia; daughters, Michelle Zavala and her husband, Jerry, of Mexia, and Lisa Jones and her husband, John, of Mexia; son, Lonnie Lewis and his wife, Leigh, of Maypearl; grandchildren: Juan Zavala and his wife, Michele, of Corsicana, Rosa Martinez and her husband, David, of Longview, James “Mikey” Guthrie, of Corsicana, Amanda Hawkins, of Mexia, Lonnie “Keith” Guthrie and his wife, Amanda, of Kaufman, Nicholas Duckett, of Hubbard, Carly Manning (Tom), of Waco, Quenton Lewis, of Maypearl, Linzie Lewis, of Maypearl, Blake Lewis, of Mexia, Taylor Jones, of Mexia, Colton Jones (Alex), of San Antonio, and Lex Lewis, of Maypearl; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Cogdell, of Mexia, Patricia Lastly and her husband, Tommy, of Burnet, and Jeanette Bain and her husband, David, of Mexia; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
