Rose Ina was born in Creelough, Co Donegal, Ireland and lived there with her parents and six siblings. It appears she came to visit America two different times before she eventually moved here. One in 1909 with Bridget McBride (a relative ? ), and then again in 1911, when she came to the United States with her older sisters Bridget and Kate Kelly. They were both living in America and working as cooks. It serms Rosina returned to Ireland after both visits.

Sometime early during WWI (1914-1918), she worked in Ireland as a nurse and helped to take care of the wounded soldiers returning from the battlefields. She continued nursing after the war and joined the Suffragette and Nationalist Movements, who were both lobbying for Ireland's independence from Britain. During the Irish Civil War of 1922-1923, Rose Ina was arrested and incarcerated in a British jail Kilmainham for over 10 months, for "aiding and abetting the enemy", by nursing the injured IRA soldiers. Upon her release, she returned to the United States a year later on Christmas Eve 1924. She continued to live and be near her sister's Dwyer family, and worked in Philadelphia. In Oct 1930 she was naturalized as a US citizen and officially changed her name to Rosina Kelly. She was sponsored by her two cousins John and Paul Dwyer.

Sometime in the 1930s she lived in New York City and before 1940, she moved to the Los Angeles area of California and lived there for another 20 -30 years. In the 1940 census she is listed as living with her sister Bridget, and her family in Los Angeles, and working as a nurse.
