Arthur Unaris, of New Britain, CT, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at the age of 88. "Art", as he was known, was born in New Britain and spent his childhood in his parents' homeland of Turkey, returning to the United States as a teenager. During World War II, he proudly served his country in the US Army. Following his military service, Art began working at the Capitol Lunch in New Britain along with his brother-in-law, Nick Sangeloty. In 1957, Art and Nick assumed ownership of Capitol Lunch and ran it for 45 years until turning it over to Gus and Arthur Ververis in 2002. Over the years, Capitol Lunch became a New Britain landmark, famous for its hot dogs and trademark special meat sauce. To the folks who enjoyed his legendary wieners, Art was the face of Capitol Lunch, with his big smile and friendly greeting for everyone who came through its doors.

Art is survived by his wife, Helen, his son, John, his son-in-law Constantine Veveris, two grandchildren, Arthur and Ignatius Veveris, all of Southington, his sister Katherine Sangeloty of New Britain, and the many, many thousands of people who, through the years, walked into Capitol Lunch as Art's customers and left as his friends.

The funeral was held on June 9, 2007, at the Dellavecchia Funeral Home in Southington, CT and at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in New Britain. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery in New Britain. Donations in Art's memory can be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, PO Box 1753, New Britain CT 06050.
