Age 79, passed away suddenly on May 31, 2007 in Henderson, Nevada while on a trip with her husband.

Gloria was born March 30, 1928 in Santa Barbara, CA to Roberto and Jenny Silvas. As a young girl she moved to Santa Maria with her mother and stepfather in 1941. She attended school in Ventura and Santa Maria. She married Armand Acosta in 1949 in Santa Maria. In her earlier years, Gloria worked for General Telephone Co., while at the same time assisting her husband in operating the Beno's Clothing Stores in Santa Maria and Lompoc. Eventually she left the telephone company and helped her husband full-time in starting their own clothing store, Armand's Men's Wear, located in the Penney's Shopping Center in Santa Maria. Gloria loved to travel with many trips across the country and overseas. One of her last trips was a two-week cruise to Hawaii. Although slowed by the effects of diabetes she still enjoyed weekly pleasure trips to the Chumash Casino. For many years she volunteered at Catholic Charities and the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society. She and her husband were long-time members of the Santa Maria Country Club where she learned to enjoy the game of golf.

She is survived by her husband of over 58 years, Armand R. Acosta of Santa Maria and a son, John L. Acosta of Cypress, Florida; three brothers, Bob and his wife Jessie Silvas of San Jose, CA, Charlie Silvas and Raymond Avila, both of Santa Maria and a sister and her husband, Donita and Fred Hansen of Hanford, CA; uncles Jacinto and Ardicenio Mendoza of Newman, CA; aunts Valentina & Sal Romo of Reno, Nevada, Ynez Mendoza of Lompoc, CA, nephews Art Silvas, Carlos Silvas, Raymond Avila, Jr., all of Santa Maria and Jeffrey Silvas of San Jose; nieces Jessica Orca, Rayanne Avila, both of Santa Maria, and Dena Talbert of Los Angeles. She also leaves behind several great-nieces and great-nephews and former co-workers at General Telephone Company, as well as many life-long friends.
We are very sad to see her go and we will miss her. However, she lived a full and happy life, which we are grateful for.

A Vigil Service will be held Thursday June 7, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 8, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Santa Maria Cemetery.

Friends if they so desire can make memorials in Gloria's name to either the Catholic Charities, 607 West Main St., Santa Maria, CA 93458 or to the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society, 751 Black Rd., Santa Maria, CA 93454
