Tom, son of Charles and Anna Bennison, was born on November 16, 1935 in Easton, Pennsylvania. Tom grew up with brother Jim and sister Judy and always reflected fondly on his upbringing in Easton, PA.
After attending Easton High School, Tom enlisted in the Air Force. He served a tour in Alaska and was subsequently commissioned through the Aviation Cadet Program, in Class 58-08C at Harlingen, Texas. He first served as a navigator on C-118's and then as a pilot after attending flight school. He was among the early pilots assigned to fly the new F-4 Phantom II, which he flew for the rest of his 26-year career. He served three combat tours in Vietnam, two flying and one non-flying. He earned a bachelor's and master's degree during the course of his Air Force and civilian careers.
Tom also lived overseas in Korea, Germany and Italy and traveled extensively domestically and internationally during his lifetime. Tom's adventurous spirit instilled the travel bug and appreciation of different cultures in both his immediate and extended family. Tom is survived by Carol, his wife of 55 years, whom he met while they were both stationed at McGuire AFB, New Jersey, and their sons, Karl (and his wife Jessica) and Kyle.
The family will have a private internment service at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City at a time and date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, any desired memorial contribution may be offered to the Wounded Warrior Project.
